Inbound Marketing

Just started reading Dharmesh Shah’s new book: Inbound Marketing. I’m at the very start so I don’t have much to report now other than it looks pretty damn good so far.

Finished up Seth Godin’s book called Permission Marketing. It was pretty good, though I could’ve gotten plenty out of it if the book was half the size. Not a big book at all, it’s just that I’m not a big fan of having the same concept repeated to me over and over.

Totally not related: I love my Kindle!! 🙂

Pre-Launch Update

So far so good. I’ve received some great feedback and I’ve had a lot more people sign up than I thought would 🙂

So far, my visitor to account signup conversion rate is at about 25%! And about half of those are paid accounts.

I received some “media buzz” from about.com:

There’s one more day left for users to sign up and get the $9/month price. After that I’m going to redirect everything to “www”, and raise the price. I was going to raise it to $19/month right off the bat, but I’m going to try out $14/month first. That way I can see what sort of effect going to $19 has on my conversion rate.

These last two days have been awesome. Lots of great feedback and I’ve talked to some really enthusiastic new users.

Oh, I kind of slacked off on emailing bloggers for a website review but I’ll be putting in around 30 mins each day to try to get some mentions going.

I’ll be posting another update after I move everything to “www”.

First Season of Fringe

I’ll start off by saying that I don’t watch TV at all. When I say that, I mean I never, ever, watch TV. EVER.

I’ve mentioned that before and I’ve had people say “Oh yeah, I don’t really watch TV either. Maybe an hour or so, but that’s it.” Well that’s not what I mean when I say that. I mean that I’ve watched less than an hour of TV in the last 5 years combined.

Unless, it’s on DVD that is.

I guess this is what I hate about TV:

  • Lack of widescreen and video quality.
  • Garbage TV shows.
  • Having to sit in front of a TV at specific times.
  • Commercials.

Anyways, a couple of days ago I went to Blockbuster to pick up Dexter season 3 and found that it was checked out. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a DVD cover for a show called Fringe. I read the back of the cover and saw that it was SciFi so I thought I’d give it a shot (even though it was from Fox).

I’ve only watched the first two episodes but I have to say that I’m impressed. If you’re into SciFi I highly recommend you check it out.

Flash Intro for My Screencast

I’m sure I have better things to do, but I did some work on the Bidsketch screencast tonight. I didn’t get too far with the actual video or the script, but I feel pretty comfortable with the software now.

Reading the screencast lesson posted by Ian Ozsvald in the Academy, I came across this this excellent 9 part tutorial he came up with:

Somewhere in there  (or in the Academy lesson, I can’t remember) he talks about inserting some sort of slide at the start of your screencast. I thought it sounded like a pretty neat idea so I opened up Flash (which I haven’t used since version 1) and decided to create something for exactly that purpose.

Here it is:
